Our Gearing Stinks! Looking for info on gear swaps...
My 04 S-Cab 4x4 Lariat is a great truck other than the stock 3.73 gearing. If you do some calculations against the titan's final gearing, our trucks would need around a 4.30 gear just to be close in final gearing. That's comparing to the 2WD Titan. The 4WD's optional 3.3x something gear in the titan is equal to around a 4.56/4.88. Ford used a very poor choice for stock tranny gearing.
Anyway, I want to go down to a 4.30 gear for better acceleration and towing performance. Who makes a good quality gear and what have some of you guys paid for install on a 4WD application? I am hoping Ford makes the 4.30s since they have the quietest gears. Thanks for any support!

4.56 gears
I swapped in 4.56 Gears from Precision Gears on my 2004 F150 FX4 from stock 3.55 which were a joke. I love it, it really juiced up my truck, specially after 325 tires slowed me down.
Oh yeah, it wasn't cheap either @ $1200 out the door front and rear.
I was going to go for 4.88 for towing, but long term high speed driving would have cost me big time in gas because with 4.88 & 70 MPH you would be around 2200RPM.
