Exclamation HELP!! Stalling 04 4X4 Supercab

Hi! This is my first post in this forum. I'm coming here from a BMW forum site. I traded the BMW for a 2004 F-150 Lariat Supercab 4X4. I'm familiar with your forum setup, but I have a few questions. I've done some searches on this already, but I still need an answer.

My truck stalls in traffic or coming to a stop. It's been doing it for about 800 miles. I've been to the dealer twice and they can't find anything wrong with it. I'm frustrated. I've seen an couple of fixes on this forum, but I was wondering if there is a definitive fix for the problem. Some guys are calling for a new MAF and others say it's the PCM that needs to be replaced. My build date is 09/04. My dealer thinks that it's a problem that will fix itself over time. Apparently, it isn't because it's still a problem. Any suggestions to tell the dealer?

Thanks,

JJ

My first guess was the MAF. Is your air intake stock? Did you install an aftermarket chip?

The Ford dealer mechanics crack me up. The truck is going to fix it's self! (lol!!!) The only people more funny are the Ford dealer body shop techs (NEVER let them work on your vehicle).

Lariat483 last month my SCAB did the samething right after filling the tank from fumes. I pulled off the lot & stopped @ a red light then things went dead. No warning / NOTHING. I started & drove off till the next light when things went dead again. Then I was MADD so I turned around heading towards the dealer & things went dead AGAIN. Now I've had this truck for 3 months & put 10K on it w/ nothing like this happening before I ran the tank to fumes. I pulled into the dealers lot & since then its not acted up again / so maybe as long as I don't run it almost dry it'll be fine?? Just thought I'd let you know mine has stopped / & I do hope for good. Its the 4.6 - 3.73LS & has been reflashed // GOOD LUCK

stalling

The fix is a new PCM. I had major stalling issues fixed only by this repair. Apparently trucks built in the last 2 weeks of august and first 2 weeks of september are affected. Have your dealer call my dealer (Village Ford in Dearborn MIchigan) they will confirm it. They had 5 or 6 trucks doing it and the PCM fix so far has cured them all. A reflash of the old PCM wont do it, It needs to be replaced.

Well, after the second visit and the dealer telling me that it was fixed, I believed them. Silly me.... It stalled on me 6 times this weekend. I'm not very confident in my brand new truck. I called them today and let them know that I was less than pleased and that I was bringing it in to leave it until it's fixed. When I got there, they had a rental supercrew waiting for me. I am going to call my service tech tomorrow and let him know about Village Ford. Thanks for the heads up on my problem. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue and that it can be fixed.

Update

Well,

The dealer had my truck for a couple more days and now it's "fixed." They remapped the idle and did something with some sort of "kam." I'm not really sure what the **** they did, but it is idling higher now... about 700rpm. It has not stalled yet and runs better. I asked the dealer why they worked on the cam, and the service advisor told me that it really wasn't the cam, but it was something called the "kam." He didn't offer an explanation to what that was. Does anyone know? I know a lot about vehicles, and I've never heard of something like that. Hopefully, it's fixed for good now.

JJ
