Question 1996 Explorer Sunroof won't close

Hi- I have a 1996 Explorer Limited. I opened the sunroof yesterday and now it won't close. Has anyone had this problem before? The windows work fine.

In the past couple of years I have had similar types of problems:
1. The rear right window would not go down.
2. After turning on the hazards, then off again, the turn signal would not light up
3. The radio would not switch off.

All of the last 3 problems "fixed themselves" within about 5 minutes. I was hoping this sunroof thing would too, but hours later it still would not close.

If anyone out there has a power sunroof with the sunshade to cover it up, could you tell me if you can still see the handle for the shade when the sunroof is all the way open? I can't see the handle/grip and I don't remember if it was always this way when I had the roof open, or if something could be jammed now.

Thanks for you help.
Lynn

I have a '97 with a sunroof and shade and the handle for the shade does fully retract when you open the sunroof all the way. The handle for it doesn't come back into view until you get the sunroof about 3/4 of the way closed. If you haven't already, you might want to check the fuses and then the motor. I'm sure it'll be something simple like this. Hope this helps!

BTW, I had the same problem with the right back window, I just kept pushing the switch and then it finally went down and has worked fine since. It was just odd....

Some cars come from the factory with a seperate manual crank handle for situations like this. Does your owners manaul say anything about this. Is the motor trying to close it or is it just dead? As mentioned take a look in your owners manual for the fuse location. Is anything else not working?
