I have an 86 Bronco, and I rebuilt the heads and put a new Edelbrock 650 Carb in and got it to run much better then it was (before one of the cylinders was not holding any compression, because of a cracked valve).
Anyway I am trying to adjust the timing and something is drastically wrong. I marked on the harmonic balancer the 10*BTDC with chalk and disconnected the vaccume advance and plugged it. Then I hooked up my timming light (to #1 cylinder) I started the engine, then I turned the distributer so that the chalk mark lines up with the timing pointer, it idels fine but it doesnt start when the timing mark is there, (it is WAY to far advanced). So I just turned the distrubeter until it would start easy and the mark is about 3-4 inches away from the timing pointer. So something is wrong but I cant figure out what, any ideas? When I put everything back together I had the #1 piston at TDC with the distributer in the right position and the rotor in the right postion also. So I dont know what could be the matter?
Please help me!
Thanks,
Nick~

you will need a damper puller. most auto stores will rent one out to you cheap. your dizzy could still be a few teeth off when you stabbed it. when you pulled it did you mark on the base and on the block to line it back up. doing it by eye isnt the best way. if you pull the cap back off and turn motor over till you get to tdc and see where the rotor is pointing.
