new metal hood

I noticed in last months issue of one of my truck mags that a vendor is now selling new metal hoods and doors for mid 50 chevy's, does anyone know of a company that is making new 53-56 F-100 metal hoods. I know that you can buy the glass hoods, but I would like to have metal. Thanks for you help, Charlie

Hey I was at Charlotte last weekend at the auto fair. Dennis Carpenter had a truck there at there that had a new metal hood and doors on a slant cab 53-55' model F100. They had magnetic tags on them saying the doors would be out in Spring 05. The hood was due out Fall 05. I would imagine though with a glass hood being about 500 right now a metal will likely be 800- Grand. New is new though. The quality of both the doors and Hood was pretty good. I think a vendor out of California, Blue Oval is the one getting the hoods and doors reproduced.

Praise all that is Blue

I'll be all over that Repop. Oh the shame of letting Bob's F100 bend me over last month on a warmed over repaired hood, with a rivnut twisted out of the hinge support. I bought it sight unseen based on their glowing description, and they had been so difficult to deal with, I slinked away squeezing the cheeks with an additional $500.00 credit card debt. - Oh well Live and learn! Name witheld to protect the ignorant (me).

Dales Mfging in Okla. was advertising all new sheetmetal last fall for those trucks in Hemmings. They had several full page ads for the parts. He supplies alot of parts to the other vendors for resale. You might pick up a copy of Hemmings and find his address and call for info.

They have a web site:

Dale's Manufacturing

Not much listed on the web site but you can get a free catalog and they have contact information.

I saw on Blue Oval's site last night they now have the doors available for $579. They are empty hardware wise but the shells looked good back in September at Charlotte.

After reading the history of Dales MFG I would be surprised if the Classic Auto parts www.classicautoparts.com is not the same catalog.

Buyer beware! Find out where they are made (US or overseas). I looked at the new gravel pans at Carlisle last summer and it was very tinny. Good used ones have a lot more metal. I would suggest buying it at a show not from a catalog sight-unseen. What is the gauge of th esheet metal??
