i have a 1985 F150 with a 302 in it. it has 112,000 actual miles and has been well cared for. i havn't owned this truck very long but when i first start it, it knocks for about 2 or 3 seconds....then it goes away. it really sounds like a rod knocking. would heavier oil help to eliminate this for a while? or some kind of oil treatment? could this be anything other than a rod, i know it's hard to diagnose without hearing it but with only 112,000 miles, a rod seems premature. Thanks for the advice, Kent
WOW, that would be fantastic. I have only had this truck about 2 weeks. purchased from original owner who took care of it. i'm not sure what filter it has but it's not motorcraft. i'll change to motorcraft and good clean oil. maybe that will do it. i hope it does. yea, it sounds like the filter is empty every time yoiu start the truck. thanks, Kent
I think that fixed it! i didn't heard the knock last night nor did i hear it this morning when i started it. it had a fram on it and i put a motorcraft on it. i'll let you know as i drive it more. thanks again. Kent
