Despite all their complaints of how none of this is their fault (and even if it really isn't their fault), their profits can't help but go up. If you make x% profit on every item you sell, and the price of that item doubles, then so does your profit. So you can't say that the higher prices are composed solely of greater profit, but they sure have to be happy about the whole situation in any event.

Diesel jumped from $1.89 to $2.09 in one day in Maryland last week. Gas is going for $1.83. I have lived all over the country and the difference in pricing for gas and diesel in different states is the state fuel tax. Georgia typically has the lowest fuel prices in the US. They also have the lowest fuel taxes. (they make up for it on property taxes). Diesel prices are really crazy right now, but what are you going to do...drive a gas rig......I THINK NOT!

Man, this is really bad. I'm not trading my PSD in for a moped or anything but this out of control. The reasoning I've heard is that heating oil production is driving up demand, plus, Asian market requirments, and add to that lack of refining capacity in the U.S. Oh, yeah, and we can't drill in the gulf of Alaska. This is just nuts. I live and Texas and have often driven by idle wells, and the refineries down on the gulf. It really should be affordable here. I'm really in shock from paying $2+ per gallon. I'd say I couldn't afford to drive anymore, except that there isn't a choice. There needs to be a solution to this, and soon.

Up to $2.25 here in Scranton, PA, no sign of it going down either. It just keeps going up and up and up.

It's been $2.14 for a few days near me. On the way to work I passed a station that had diesel for $2.05 and figured I should stop there on my way home from work since it was on the wrong side of the road. I should have made the u-turn - it was $2.21 this afternoon. That's a pretty stiff one-day jump!

ib422goon,

I was hoping diesel would be same as unleaded in our neck of the woods (Paradise) as I am about to purchase a PTD. Maybe you will see me driving around town in my new to me Excursion soon.

Well, for the time being I have taken to driving in my little Civic again. I love driving my truck as it is much more comfortable on my 130 mile a day commute, but it makes more sense to my wallet to be able to buy cheap regular unleaded and get close to 40 mpg. Hopefully the diesel prices will come down soon and I will resume driving my truck... until then it only comes out on weekends.

Im 30 minutes north of Seattle. Generally Diesel has been about the same as regular unleaded the last few years, 2.07 ish per gallon. The last week and a half Unleaded has stayed about the same, and Diesel has shot up everywhere around here and is approaching the 2.40 mark!!!!!!!! Super is less now. Diesel is the highest price fuel and it just keeps going up. This is a bunch of crap. Someone has us by the kahoonies.................

Wink Your $ at work

Duncan,
Just FYI in the future when traveling to Chicago be prepared to pay 80 cents at the toll unless you vehicle is equipped with the IPASS system. (They only have to pay 40 cents becuase it doesn't cost the state to actually uh, EMPLOY anybody.) Oh wait, that would be for 4 tires on the ground. I imagine it will cost me about a buck. The justification for the increase not that we've paid too much already is that they are now going to connect 355 to 80. You won't really be getting to your destination any faster because you'll be stopping every 3 miles to pay for that brand spanking new road you traveling on.

Diesel fuel here about 2.10 but in the city 2.25- 2.50 depending on which robbery station you choose.

I live in So Oregon, prices here are 2.12 to 2.39 a gal. Took a trip up north toward seattle and saw prices from 2.28 to 2.59. Bought my truck a little over a year ago and was happy paying less than unleaded. Then two months later the diesel prices started increasing and hasn't stopped yet. Going to start driving the work van more.
