I am considering a new Super Crew. I have a couple of questions. Do the 04's have the same brake dust problem that the 03 Expeditions have? Also wondering about the rear seat comfort? Are the rear seats comfortable for longer trips or mostly in town. I know of someone with the original Tundra and the back seat is almost inverted, and doesn't look like it would be tolerable for even a quick trip down to the store. I test drove a Titan the other day, and it was pretty nice and the rear seat comfort was pretty good. Nice angle on the rear seatback. But the package I would want would come with their "high end" stereo, and I was far less than impressed, to say the least. Is the Audiophile stereo in the F150, the same as what is being offered in the Expeditions? That was better than the Titan, but not as good as the Mach system I had in our 2000 Expedition.
Got in trouble for not posting for a while, sorry about that. Been kinda busy.
I do have a question though. Do the ceramic brake pads really help the brake dust problem? And are you guys installing them yourselves or are you having the dealers do it?
The only time I take advantage of the warranty is when a peice of the truck breaks that is Ford only like a door handle or something in the drivetrain. I don't know if they would still cover the rotors if the brake pads are changed so soon but I do know it would be cheaper for you to install them yourself. Also They help immensely with brake dust when compared to the oem pads but they may cut down on the rotor lifespan because they cause more friction. It will be a night and day difference.
I was wondering how hard the ceramic pads were on the rotors. It seems that nothing is free, either you get mass dust or wear out your rotors faster. Always a trade off.
Do you know if Ford sells the ceramic brake pads? If they do, I wouldn't think there would be a warranty issue. Especially if you did have them dealer installed.
I believe the brake pads are considered a "wear item" and wouldn't be covered by the manufacturer's waranty anyway unless the wear was directly related to a covered item like a bad caliper, valve, line etc. I haven't read any reports that say ceramic pads are harder and wear the rotors out faster, it is just a part of the mix in the pad material, just like asbestos or organic materials. If you are concerned then run the pads that are on it when new until they need replaced and switch then.
I found an interested info that its not recommended to have ceramic brake pads on truck with stock rotors IF YOUR DOING A TOWING...
It stats that the rotor will wraps due to high heat on ceramic brake pads ( long time to cool it down ).
ANy one can confrim this one issue??
I guess i ll buy me a set front cover dust on rims.
the dust covers made a lot of peoples rotars warp that i knew. might be worst for the truck since there is so little room for air to circulate and cool off especially when towing. i just spray them down after driving sometimes use some 409 its not that hard.
