I've got a '70 Sport Custom, 360, and C6, just did a intake swap it ( put a factory 4 bbl intake on it, had a 2bbl to 4bbl adaptor on my stock 2bbl intake before) I've got it up and running okay, just seems like its got more in it. I've got a Edelbrock 500cfm Performer 4bbl with mechanical secondaries on it. The air jets on this one control curb idle, and wide open throttle. Here's the problem, It starts, idles, runs pretty good, but it just isn't there when you open it up. Seems to hesitate just a little when you open it up, but I'm not sure if I just don't have it tuned good enough, or if I need to go to a bigger jet? Before it would set you back in the seat when you opened it up, now it just deepens the exhaust tone alittle with a slight increase in acceleration. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds more like you need to adjust your accelerator pump - it takes a while for your jets to react, but the accelerator pump dumps extra fuel in when you first crack the throttle.
Is that the plunger on the top right corner of the carb? I did move it down to the second slot when I put the 4 bbl on originally, may try to move it down to the third slot and see what it does. Wish they had better diagrams on these carbs, I'm no barry grant as you can tell by my post!!!
Sounds like you need to richen up the carb. You need to try installing smaller metering rods and different springs for the metering rods. I would suggest a tuning kit with jets, metering rods and springs.
Ok, but tell me why did it work so good with a lousy adapter plate and a two bbl intake? I understand that it is flowing more now and the fuel is divided a little better between the cylinders, but it is just gutless! I did mess with the acc. pump and it didn't seem to do anything but make it idle worse. I'm at a loss here, Its more or less a stock engine with some add on's, and I had this same carb on my 302 in my '75 bronco which was bone stock and it ran like a bat!! Could it be starving for fuel from the fuel pump? I wanted to put an aftermarket pump on but I wanted to get a decent tune on it first. Which puts me back to square one huh?
