I have a 92 F150 with approx 180,000 miles on it. Always ran great until I took it to the car wash. I now have an idle problem. Runs ok if i keep my foot on the gas. I was told that there may be a sensor or chip that got wet. I don't know, if there is a sensor or chip what is it called, where could I get one and is it easy to install. Any other ideas if this is not the problem.
Thanks for the help,

Water may not cause the IAC motor itself to go bad but in extreme cases the sensor could short out. The same for just about any sensor, it would be comparable to hosing down you breaker box at home.
The first thing I would do is pull the dist cap and make sure it's dry, moisture in the cap will definitely cause this.
After that, well it's like throwing dice. There's just too many sensors that when wet could have shorted out.
About the only thing you could do is unplug each sensor one at a time until there are no changes in how it runs. Then, well you could throw the dice and buy a new one to see if it works.
Check that cap first though. Remember those cars with.......a carb. When hosed off good it may not run right after, until you dried out the cap.
when I bought my 88 recently I took of the throttle body cleaned out all components on the body itself and scraped out the intake as much as I could put it all back together and ran it for a little while the got some sea foam and sprayed it in the intake so that would aid to the clean up . and that fixed my with the idle. its like it would idle high for a long time then when it would kick down it would do it to much till it died.
