How am I going to lift my Van ? (4x4)

Okay,

I've got an 87 Quigley 4x4 E250.....I've called everybody trying to find a lift kit and I'm stumped....

The front end is a stock E250 suspension (ie:coil springs) on a Dana44 striaght axle.

I can get coil spring spacers...but what about the radius arms (I think that's what they're called) and a drop pitmann arm ?

The rear is a stock leaf spring setup. 3" wide springs and 55" from mount to mount. The rear springs are the negative arch type springs - so I figure I could find regular springs and get a little rear lift from that...

Camburg has no idea on an 87....BDS was no help....tsliftkits.com...no help....

Thanks for listening, Dan

i dont think you are going to find a lift kit of any sort for your van. there is a huge liability issue with lift kits the 4x4 vans. it is because they are so top heavy to start with, any lift would make it a dangerous situation.

Ok. The suspension and chassis are for the most part identical to the F-series pickups. There may some small irritating differences but that's it... The sterring linkages are different, but shocks, springs and such should be close if not the same.

Dan, I have a 97 E250 4X4 so I am not sure if there are any subtle differences without looking at your suspension. There are no kits for these vans. You have to do it yourself. Mine has a leaf spring setup in the front with a straight Dana 44 axle. I think I know what you are going through because I have been playing with my suspension since I built the van in 97. My rear springs started sagging after a year or two. They were the stock springs with a 4" lift block. I removed the lift block and had a National Spring custom spring pack made that lifted the van without the block. The result was a better ride, less bucking, and I no more axel wrap where I broke leafs when using low range. This was a $750 set of springs and I did the work.
I have added leafs for friends to their spring packs in the rear and that works fine with less cost. You could also add more blocks but since it sounds like the arch is allready reversed I wouldn't recommend that. As for the front, that get trickier. If your coils have sagged, you could replace them with the stock ones or have custom ones made that could lift the rig. There is a place I have used for friends called Valley Spring in Calif that can make coils springs any way you want them. When you do that it changes the geometry of the suspension and you have to deal with that but if can be done. I would hazzard a guess that after that many years the van is sitting lower than when Quiqley made it just from use, so by just adding the stock stuff might put it back to normal. If there has been more weight added on it after if left Quiqley you could be dealing with two problems. You might call Quigley and talk to their parts dept. and see what they say. Hope some of this helps, John

Give Quigley a call,

BTW, have your VIN code handy, when you call.

Most other people aint gonna know a thing.

I haven't lifted mine, but have spacers handy should I want the lift.

there are lift kits available for your van. a couple months ago on this very forum, I was communicating with a guy who just had his Quigley Van lifted by a professional shop that deals only with Quigley Vans. In fact he even has a small web site that sports before and after photos of his ride. Try searching the archives are screaming out for all Quigley van owners.
