1979 359 v8 is all I know

Hello All,
My name is Matthew and I can tell you what color it is but that is bout it.
My Father died in April and I went to Yuma Az to clean out his apt and all that.
This truck is all he was able to leave me and so I am kinda attatched to it.
I have been living in it since the spring and a month ago it went down.

It has run strong for me,the only problem I had was the key not starting it and someone showed me how to jump it underneath.

A month ago I was driving from Grass Valley to Nevada City Ca when the temp went up and I was losing power. Temp has NEVER gone up.

Last week I checked the sparkplug wires and found one loose. I pulled and cleaned all the plugs (yeah...they were black...one so fouled from the loose wire) put a charge to the battery and dripped some gas in the carb and she started right up.

I let it set (to charge the battery) and then went to drive it up the driveway...and she stalled ... rolled back down jumped it again and same thing... hot hot hot and when I went up hill it cut out and stalled.

I really need to get this truck on the road to either sell or use. I am out in the boondocks and dont have the ca$h to just send it to someone. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If your response requires more info, please tell me what that info is and how to find it.(kinda a neanderthal when it comes to autos)

May blessings find all of you,
Matthew

you dont have a 359ci engine, a 79 came with a 351m. first thing i would do is rebuild the carb or at least tune it so your plugs arent covered in soot. check the idle too. second you need a new key cylinder so you can start the thing.
you have a great truck there, dont sell it

Therm

You may want to check / change the thermostat. They're cheap (just got one in stainless for $6.00). If your overheating that fast, it may be stuck.

Check the radiator fluid level. Do it when the engine is cold.

Possibly a weak fuel pump too if the carb is ok. You may try a new fuel filter as well.
