Exclamation 2000 Navigator Won't Turn Over...Help!

Hey,

I have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator with 75,000 miles that won't turn over. There were no warnings and this is the first time doing this. I disconnected the battery for a minute to reset the system, tried jump starting, tried the spare key just in case it was the transponder, locked & unlocked the doors for the security system & nothing helps. When I try to start it all the dome lights go off but the dash lights stay on as usual but nothing happens. The battery voltage actually rises once I try to start it since all the accessories are off. It does not seem to be getting a power to the starter. The car has an extended warranty and i'm out of small possible ideas but before it is towed to the dealer I wanted to rule out any stupid things then being stuck with the tow & repair bill.

I've had problems like this before and it turned out to be the alarm system. Could this be from the alarm system? How would I check/disable it?
If you have any suggestions, please let me know...

Thanks in advance.
Dustin

Sounds like it could be a bad starter solenoid. Follow the + wire from the battery to the primary side of the solenoid. If you're comfortable with it, you can try to start your truck with the solenoid posts jumpered together (very carefully). If it turns over, replace the solenoid.
Good luck.

They make starter buttons for that purpose. You connect the leads to the posts on the start relay/solenoid and press the button, much more controlled than the 'ole screwdriver method.

Thanks for the posts.

I've done the screw driver over the solenoid before but can you give me a description of where both points are? Right now the car is in a parking lot. I had to work on it last nite & I couldn't see very well even with my flash light. I couldn't find both posts on the solenoid. It's likley I just didn't see it, but if you have a good description before I go back out there that would help.

Thanks again.

Its right behind the battery on the firewall. Mine has a rubber cap on one of the posts. Follow the + wire from the battery and you can't miss it. Good luck.

Its actually a relay, the solenoid is on the starter itself.

Thanks for the info & the pic! I actually was working on the solenoid and it ended being the relay. It took me some time to figure it out but I got it started & it's covered under the extended warranty!

Thanks again for all the help...

dome light go off but nothing else happens

I found that i was having similar problems, but it was my shifter not all the way in park for some odd reason. if u have power to the battery and the car just wont turn over or wont make a clicking nose check starter and make sure its 100% in park if not u get nothing might also try starting in neutral.

That's good advice, always try the simple things first. More often than not people think the worst and overlook those easy things.
