my 91 150 4x4 had all these symptoms....spedo bounce, slam shift, od in & out, etc. after rippin out all my hair i pulled the speedo cable out of the tranny, drivers side high in the back, and changed the little plastic, yes plastic, gear that goes on the end. old girl runs like a brand new puppy..even towing my boat. i did the oil drain & filter too a 100 miles after just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. hope it helps anyone w/ this freak issue. its about a $ 8.00 part. (for $.003 worth of plastic). good luck
OK, I had shifting problems on a hot day , not towing, preceeding the worse problems. It would shift very hard 1-2 & 2-3 plus it had torque Converter shudder while at low throttle positions.
I changed the fluid and filter (no problems at inspection), added 16 quarts* fresh MERCON (Dextron III) with one pint of "Shudder Stop" additive. My transmission has no more shifting problems (like a clunk from 1-2 & 2-3, or TC Shudder) and it back to the smooth transmission it has always been. I am so happy to have my true truck back. *to get 16 quarts in you must drain the TC.
Just brought home my new '94 F250 last night. I had the slam into each gear problem. It also would slam into reverse. When I first test drove it, there was no problem. I don't know if my problem is temperature related. I'll find out this weekend. If it still has it, I'll try the battery disconnect and watch this thread.
I have a 93 and experiencing similar problems. It shifts at a higher RPM's and hard. I am also confused about the speed sensor. I can't find one on the transmission and I don't see a speedometer cable. I'm not getting any indication lights and the truck runs fine, except for the shifting problem.
