Thumbs up Buying 2004 heritage 4.2 ? should I ?

Hi Guys,
I've been driving ford inline 6's for a long time now . drove a 61 f 100 short box, then about 20 years ago I bought a 1981 f 100 short box I've got over 200xxx miles on it now still gets me where I want to go.
Now I'm looking at buying a new F150 Heritage flareside 4.2
straight stick the price is right,
My question is to you guys who own 4.2s would you buy another one ?

thanks Greg

I just bought one myself, a 2004 Heritage XL 4x4 with a 4.2 v6 and a manual trans.

I am very happy with it. It is a very well made truck.

The v6 has plenty of power for my needs. I traded a 94 Bronco with a 302, this v6 is much more powerful than the tired v8.

This truck is so much better made than the Bronco. Ford really has their act together now.

Buy the Heritage, the price is a steal compared to the new model.

Thumbs up

I just traded in my 1995 F-150 RC XLT 302 4x4 for a 2004 XL SC 4x2 Heritage and I love the new truck. Very tight feeling and more power than my 302 with lots of age and mileage.

I got the 4.2 and it feels fine even throught the slush box.

You will not regret it!!

I would buy another 4.2. Condisering its ohv, I think it has enough power for its size. In exception to the 97 4.2(Those Gaskets are a killer, literally), I think they are well built. Especially the newer they get. Next vehicle is a car for me though, maybe a Mustang GT or Cobra

If you don't have to have the latest and greatest (body style) and if you don't need V8 power, I'd say buy it. I'd buy one if I was in the market for a new(er) truck.
I have been thoroughly pleased with my 2000 model. I'll hit 140,000 miles this week and it has been one of, if not the, best vehicles I have ever owned.
If you don't mind my asking, what's the price for the truck you are looking at?

Yea, it's a great truck, but the downside is that it won't tow nearly as much of a load as the I-600.

Hi Brian,
The window sticker price is 22,700 the price I'll be paying will be 14,900 + tax and license fee, rebates to dealer. sounds like a fair price to me.

Thanks Greg

Get a 2003 5.4, lots of power for a better price than the '04 heritage 4.2.

Greg,
Yes, that sounds like a pretty good deal.
Is it XL or XLT? How is it equipped? Power windows, etc?

Brian,
I haven't actually seen the truck, I found it with the help of Ford's website. Been working with the dealer over the net, their 120 miles away.
I work in a Power Plant where we have strange shifts once a month we get 5 days off, that won't happen for me until Oct. 7th, so if the truck is still there I might buy it then..
If not I kind of want to see if these Ford inliners will go 300,XXX miles.
The trucks kind of plain jane but that's what I like, Here's some options.
It's a flareside XL 4x2 R/C

Optional Equipment
2004 MODEL YEAR
DARK SHADOW GRAY CLEARCOAT
DARK GRAPHITE CLOTH
PREFERRED EQUIPMENT PKG.502A
.6050# GVWR PACKAGE
.BLACK AERO MIRRORS

4.2L EFI V6 ENGINE
5-SPD MANUAL O/D TRANS
P255/70R-16 OWL ALL-SEASON 295

That looks very close to mine. Mine is styleside and does not have cruise control, tilt wheel, or block heater.
I paid $16,590 for mine 4.5 years ago.
Looks like a good deal for an '04.

edit to add: I see now where the one you are looking at is regular cab. Mine is a crew cab. If I found a new crew cab, equipped as you list, I'd buy it.

I have a 99 Supercab V6 5 speed. I would buy another. Good power, mpg. I don't have any problem towing, although 1st and reverse could be a little lower.

My 01 supercab has served me well with 75K on it now. Mine is as loaded as you can get XLT but no leather. Strange package but I saved 4K on it over a V8, that is why I bought it. I've had to replace the coil pack, and dpfe sensor, other than that it has been flawless. I'd buy another one.
