Question 5.0L Explorer/Mountaineer dyno numbers

Does anyone know what kind of chassis dyno numbers a stock 5.0L Explorer or Mountaineer makes? Is 170-180 rwhp accurate?

Question

I thought the Mustang Cobra motor was rated at 240 hp. All the pieces are the same except the camshaft, right?

Actually, it should be 215 at the crank with 288lb/ft tq (not splitting hairs, Blly ).

As far as at the wheels, it depends on the drivetrain setup too. AWD, 2WD, or 4x4 will all have an impact on hp loss, so your estimates may not be too far off,

Which year Cobra are you referring too (early 90s?). There are differences in air intake and exhaust on that car vs. the EXP/MNT setup.

Ford gave the 5.0L Explorers and Mountaineers the GT40/Cobra/Explorer intake, a 65mm TB, GT40P heads and it only made 215 hp at the crank?

Crazy, isn't it? It is capable of more, but there's work to be done.

Stock exhaust manifolds suck (example: 1st and 3rd cylinders share an exhaust tube, as do the 2nd and 4th), due to the limited space caused by AWD or 4WD parts. Then they funnel a nice dual exhaust setup through 4 cats (2 on each bank) into a single out muffler, followed by secondary muffler/resonator. Lastly, the intake has one of those silly air silencers that is about 60% of the size of the TB.

I have an '01 Mounty w/ AWD and am in the process of changing all this crap. Already have put on a MAC intake (small improvement) and will address the exhaust soon. FMS used to make headers for this setup, but discontinued them. I did see a post here not too long ago from a custom guy, but he wanted about $800 for a set (too much )

I'm not certain about the cam, but there may be those that can speak up to it.

Question

Do you still have your stock Mountaineer intake manifold? Is it for sale?
