4.6 has a horrible flat spot!
Hey guys, I usually hang out in the diesel forum, but I ran across a 4.6 in a 96 Lincoln today at work that has me scratching my head.
It seemed easy enough, throw a tune up at this Town car. I put plugs, wires, PCV, air and fuel filters on it. I noticed it seemed to have a slight miss under load when I first ran it in the shop, but now after putting all these parts on, it runs smooth. Only catch is now it has this full second of dead spot when I hit the throttle and the CE light is on. My scanner only goes to 95 so I couldn't plug in and check it out. Does this sound like a common 4.6 with 80k on it type problem?

Mine is a Snap-on scanner. It just has the 95 cartridges in it.
I was able to hook it up using S for the VIN year instead of T. It had 2 codes in it, neither of which seem to help me out. There was a four digit code with the key on engine off (I forget the number now that I'm home). No codes with the engine running, and a "too rich bank #2" code in the history. In the live data I was able to see the TPS working, so I can't imagine that's it. I wrote the codes down and cleared them, then went for a drive. The CE light never came back on, but it still has a dead spot that would drive the Pope to drink!
The strange part is, I talked to the owner today and he said it never did this before. I also noticed on the test drive that the car spark knocks quite a bit when you have the pedal down past 3/4. What could I have disturbed just doing plugs, wires, and filters to cause this?
