It is an option on the 05's. It is a bank of 4 switches on the dash to the right of the new brake controller that allows you to hook up aux equip to control whatever you want to hook up to them (ie. snow plow, lights, air shocks that make your front end bounce up and down at stop lights to rival the low rider next to you ) Sticker on it is about $60 and invoice is around $51. It is just a cleaner way to add switches to your dash.
I'm in the middle of wiring up a fleet of trucks. Our salesman screwed up and only ordered a couple of the trucks with upfitter switches.
If anyone is thinking about buying a new truck, and may in the future want to add something that needs switches, I would highly recommend ordering the switches.
They make wiring accessories so much easier. It's really nice not having to add switches, fuses and relays.
can you add these switches later on or do they need to be from the factory? I would think you could buy them from the dealer and just plug them in to the wiring harness.
I just ordered a set of switches this morning. My dealer says that it will take two weeks to get. I checked all the wiring and it is all there even the fuses in the panel. The plug is just onthe back of the cubby hole that will pop out and the switches will plug in. I will post again when I get them to let everyone know if it worked. My cost is $65.00 Canadian.
I took a look yesterday at one of the trucks I was wiring up. The plug for the switches was there but I couldn't find the wiring for the relays that come in the trucks equipped with the switches. It may have been tucked in somewhere that i couldn't see or maybe it's just not there.
On a truck with the upfitter switches there is a "controll box" above the main glove box. Open the glove box and push in on the two stops so the glove box rotates open all the way to the floor. Look directly up for a black "uppfitter fuse and control box". It is about 1.5" tall, 4.5" long and 3" deep, there is a snap off cover much like the main fuse panel. If this is not there on a non equiped truck, I doubt just adding the 4 switch panel for $65 is going to work.
The part Number for the switches is: 5C3Z 13D730 AAA
When I was talking to my dealer and we were trying to find this part number I do know that you can order the entire harness that includes the relay block, but I don't know how much it is or what the part number is.
any more news on this? do the SD have the relay box installed or not? i will be seriously miffed if i have to shell out 300 or so to put the upfitters in.
