98' 4.6L= The old 351???

I just bought a 98 F150 with the 4.6L triton V8. I was wondering if this motor is the same as the older 351??

Nope. The 4.6L is 281 ci and the 5.4L is 330ci. And the "triton" means its a modular engine, the engine is made of "modules" that are similiar thoughout the family of engines.

Also the single overhead cam design is nothing like the 351. It makes the 351 look like a dinosaur, and it runs like a caddy northstar v8.

Yea, as long as the spark plugs aren't blowing out, the COPS quit working, or the header studs start breaking........

Just kidding, I've never had any problems with mine, although some have and they are not shy to tell you about it..

The 351 was made out of cast iron and lasts forever.

agree that the 351 (do i hear 351 with cleaveland heads?) was great engine.

But i think the 4.6 V8 will prove to be one of the most durable Ford engines of all time assuming proper maintenance.

I agree. Does the HP match up between the 351 and the new triton V8??

In the F-150, the 4.6L V-8 was rated at 210hp in 1997, 220hp in '98, and I believe 231hp 1999-present. The last year of the 351 V-8 in the F-series was 1997 (1996 for the F-150) and it made 210 hp that year. The 351 V-8 had superior torque numbers, but the 4.6L matches or beats it's horsepower numbers on paper.
