Question 1937 Ford 60hp water pumps

This is the first time I have owned a vintage automobile, so I am new to the 60hp engine, hence my ignorance. lThis is the setup which consists of two water pumps held in the front of the engine by large spanner nuts. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Are the impellers lubed by the water or oil seapage from the bushing chamber? Noticed that the groove in the main housing on the front of the engine between the two leather/cork o rings has a hole in it filled with oil sludge, is this an oil passage of some kind to lube the bushing and impeller, or just a vent connected to the crankcase?<o></o>

If the impeller is water lubed should i assemble it without grease on the impeller or maybe water soluable grease. what does ford say?
Is there a good website for original ford TO's [instructions] for parts overhauls.<o></o>

<o></o>

Thanks Mike

Mike,
Click on my name and go to my gallery and you should find a picture of your '37 water pump in the Ford tech section. I think that your water pump was lubed by grease from a grease zerk on the shaft. Water doesn't make a very good lubricant.

Thanks for your reply. FYI, I have found that the 60hp w pump was unique, it seems the rear bushing is lubed by oil slung off the cam gear through the passage I mentioned and the impeller is lubed by the water.

Thanks again
Mike
