Flywheel and clutch questions

I am doing a 460 swap. I am putting a 79 460 motor in a 78 4X4 that originally had a 400m. I am planning on using a Flywheel with the following description. Flywheel; Manual Transmission; OE #E5TZ-6375-J; 180 Teeth; Pitch 12; 15.50" Outside Diameter. Which is a 85 ford 460 flywheel. Is it possible to use a 78 400m Clutch disk and pressure plate for this flywheel. Or should I use the 79 460 clutch set or the 85 460 clutch set. Are there any other considerations like original clutch size? Worried about mixing and matching. The pilot bearing will have to be a 79 460 pilot bearing. Does the throw out bearing have to be a 78 400m throwout bearing.

What transmission will you be using? If anything, that's what will determine what parts you need. BTW, there "weren't any" 79 460's with a manual transmission, except perhaps for a 370 or 429 in an F600 or something like that. In other words, the parts store won't have a clutch set for a 79.

I installed a couple of 460 4-speed set ups in 78/79 4X4 trucks a few years back. What I recall is I had to machine down the pilot bearing because it stuck out to far and would not allow the bell housing to bolt up to the block. The clutch splines hit the pilot bearing. I also used a 390 flywheel and I was able to use the 78/79 clutch and pressure plate and stock starter. The 460 flywheel will more than likely be a 12 inch set up and the 78/79 400 set up I believe is an 11 inch set up.

The 390 flywheel has a slight difference in balance or so I've been told it does. I however never had the 390 flywheel rebalanced and never had any troubles.

This was the easiest and cheapest approach for me. I had a 460 flywheel when I did my first swap and the 460 flywheel and clutch pieces are way more exspensive than the 400 stuff. I broke a few drive shafts with the 11 inch set up so it will hold the power from a mild 460 or it did for me.
