I know that this question has been asked many time but I was wondering if there are any companies that make full disc brake conversion kits for trucks in this era or if I am restricted to swaping to newer front end parts out of other trucks.
It would be cheaper to swap front ends from a donar truck but if you can itemize what you need for the conversion, you can buy the parts individually from a parts store. '67-'72 can use '73-'77 parts. I do believe that there is an actual conversion kit, though, looking at a few hundred bucks.
A swap would be much cheaper. You can buy most of the parts with the exception of the disc brake spindles, the spindle dust shield and the OE Ford Proportioning Valve. I did this swap on my '70 F-250 2x4 six years ago. I used the opportunity to rebuild the front suspension system that had original springs/rubber/and kingpins with 240K worth of miles on them. My donor truck was a '76 F-250 2x4. I got all the parts I needs so I did'nt have to pay those blasted core charges.
When it is was all done it is well worth the effort!
I used all parts except for I beams from a 79 F150 2x4 on my 70 F100 2x4 . Master/booster/prop/spindles/kingpins/radius arms/ etc.etc.etc. The only thing I couldn't get was the dust shield(rotted away) It was an easy install and I even switched to PS at the same time. Cheapest would be a Frame clip from a wrecker . I paid 300 CANADIAN, {about 20 bucks US haha}
I have done two swaps of my own and helped with many more. I bought donor trucks, sold parts off them that I didn't need and actually made money off them. My updrades didn't cost me money.
The next time I do it I plan on moving the sheet metal over to the chassis.
the swap is really quite simple, and well worth the effort of doing it. as previousely stated take the extra time and money saved (as opposed to buying the kit)and rebuild the front end (bushings, kingpins, tie rods, etc...) try to find a donor truck that has the front sway bar already on it so you won't have to try and take the radius arm from the I beam, that is a real pain. all in all, I spent a little over $500 and did the work my self with the exeption of having the king pins pressed out and reaming the brass bushings once they were installed for the kingpins.
good luck, and ask questions to get it done right, we are here to help!

I did this swap out of pick-n-pull junk yard parts for less than $275 in used parts and $380 in new parts. Used later model 1973+ disc brake parts and a Lincoln Mark V read disc brake rear end....its a doable swap for under $800
I pulled the brake system off of a '77 and the proportioning valve was bolted to the frame by the driver's side front tire. There's no mistaking it because all the brake lines run to it.

You used the rear disc brakes off of Lincoln for your truck? What model is your truck and what model was the Lincoln?
I guess I should have stated this was an axle swap, not a brake swap. Yeah, all the Mark V's have rear disc brakes on a super beefy 9" rear end. The track is a little different, but Stockton Wheel Service to care of the offset for me.

Ooohh Okay. Did you happen to notice what gear ratio you got on that car axle? I've got 3:25 now and don't want to go any lower.
if you can find a 79 ltd they also have a strong 9" with disc brakes readily mounted. or you can go the route i plan on. i have found a conversion kit that monts rear discs to an existing axle (welding required) and incoporates a parking brake a huge plus in my case as i cannot locate parking brake cables to fit my truck.
oh i also am in the process of getting my donor truck for the front end it cost me $750 and i already have people asking me to buy parts off of it and i dont even have the truck yet.
