Talking F-250 vs. Jimmy; Real World Pull-off....

This ditty began with my public claim that my Jimmy outperformed my F-250 when I trailered my off-road trailrig. A buddy bet me that if he drove my F-250 it would smoke the Jimmy, hands-down. It evolved into a weekend party at my place.

Specs:

1995 F-250 Std Cab Longbed 2wd 5.8, E4OD, 3.55s, 235/85/16s;

1999 GMC Jimmy 4-dr 4x4 4.3 Vortec, 4L60-E HD, 3.73s, 235/75/15s;

Both pulling identical "Kit" tandem utility trailers with near-identical Bronco II off-road rigs. Jimmy leading at bottom of stout grade approximately 3/4 mile long; start was 25 yds apart and rolling punch at 25 mph. Both vehicles are mine; I was driving Jimmy and friend I regularly convoy with to off-road events was driving the F-250. Photographer was my friend's brother riding shotgun with me, and another of his brothers was riding with him and manning a vidcam (video hopefully to follow at later date). You folks be the judges.

Naturally, there are some important qualifiers. The Jimmy was spec'd out for the sole purpose of pulling a 5,000-lb RV trailer, and has all available factory towing options. The F-250 is the generic, bargain basement pickup (XLT package only) you'd find on a dealer's lot with no towing options....I added the hidden gooseneck and class 5 receivers and brake controller. By the end of the month the F-250 will have 4.10 rear, shift kit, and will be reprogrammed for towing. I expect it to get its doors back from the Jimmy in fine style after the improvements.

Finally, the F-250 pulls the load adequately as it is, and is in a perfect state of tune....there is nothing wrong with the pickup and it just needs to be improved. The Jimmy can't be improved.

Y'all have some fun with this....we are.

Regards,

Sambo
