Im such a NoOb ! I have a 66 F100 with a 3 speed on the tree and a overdrive.
It has a big **** that I was told to pull out on the Freeway and it would go into
overdrive. I cant tell any differance other than it freewheels on deseleration with the **** pulled out. how does this thing work ? , Im am looking at converting it to a C6 but would still like to know what and how it is suspost to work.
Sounds like you have an auxillary overdrive tranmission behind your 3speed trans. You are probably supposed to push in the clutch and pull that **** to shift the extra trans when the main transmission is at the top of 3rd gear. Maybe check the linkage the **** is connected to for looseness?
Not that I was buying cars in '66 but "overdrives" were a thing of the '40's and '50's. They came back in the form of the OD tranny in the late 70's.
Anyway, if you can take a looksee under your truck and see if there is a manufacturer name on that thing, that might help. YOu can check you linkage also that way.
