K&N Air Filter

K&N Air Filter
I have the stock air filter in my truck right now and am going to change soon I believe.
1)where is the cheapest place online to buy a k&n (not ebay).
2)How much mpg can I expect more out of it?
3)Or would it be cheaper yet to just go to the local autozone or napa and get one?

Check out www.mcagraphix.com/filter/test.htm before you replace your stock filter with a K&N drop-in.

Why, http://www.motorhaven.com/customer/home.php, of course!!
I don't know whether it's the cheapest, but it does support FTE, from what I gather.

Personally, I have always been against a K&N air filter, saying they are not worth the risks of dirt injestion, and a contaminated MAF sensor. Now, check out this URL for dyno results with an OEM filter, and a K&N air filter on a Ranger 3.0L:
http://www.jackphelps.com/ranger/dyno1.htm
As you can see, there is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE!!!
One thing the dyno results WILL NOT show is any performance increase you might get due to the weight reduction in your wallet when you purchase the K&N!!
So, save your money, stay with the OEM paper filter, and keep your engine clean!!!!!

You will get little gain from just replacing the filter so if you want a real gain go with the full air intake kit like the FIPK. I have one on mine and noticed quicker throttle response, slight increase in power and about 1-1/2 mpg increase. The rumors about dirt and contaminated MAF are just that "rumors". K&N removes as much or more dirt then a stock filter and does not lose as much air flow in the process. You could possibly get a MAF contaminated if you use way to much oil when recharging the filter but these can be cleaned easily.

I bought a k&n drop in filter and after a few weeks took it out looked at my maf and hose, both were coated in dirt. hard facts -- k&n is a waste. i went back to cheapo fram and got an air inlet for a f250 w/460 which replaced my snorkel. got the same performance as when I had the k&n in and no dirt. total cost: $14.63
just my .02

Your .02 are important and it is good feedback to hear from people that have had a problem . Everyone has their own preference to what they like and don't like . I personally have used K&N for many years without a bit of trouble and have had no dirt or contamination. Properly used and taken care of I fully believe in their added value .
