Anybody w/ a '97.....

please check your owner's manual, or under the hood on the fan shroud, or on the oil filler cap, and let me know what the reccomended oil weight was for the '97 model year.

I don't know off hand, but I'd say the same as mine, but I'm not sure. I'd say 5W30...

my 01 is reccomended 5w20..if that helpslol...should all be the same!

5W30 but I run 10W30 in mine. 3 quarts of Mobil1 10W30 and 3 quarts of Chevron Supreme 10W30 dino.Its called "my blend".

interesting BOF, I use synthetic 5w20 valovline oil now, since i hear that motorcraft is better could i switch over to 5w20 motorcraft systhetic?

Motorcraft 5W20 is a semi-synthetic oil.I mix my own to get a 50/50 of both worlds.No one knows how much synthetic oil is in a blend.They could add as little as a teaspoon and call it a blend.My way,I know what i'm getting!
But yes,you can switch to any oil you prefer.

Brian,what is the point of that thread? I'm going to keep running 10W30 until my engne dies. I'm still confused tho.

Yea, i didn't even get what I wanted from that conversation really....it was basically like, "do what you want, anything works!"

5W30 was recomended untill mid 2001. My dad has a 2001 Super crew built in May 2000 and still calls for 5W30. I believe trucks built after the changeover to the offical 2001 all call for 5W20

yes, my 2001 reccomends 5w20. Not sure on the build date, I'll check into that tomorrow.
