I am mike (cardude_mad) i lost my password for my old account and the email address that I used when I signed up was cancelled, so I had to get a new account (aerostarman2002).
Anyway, My 1992 aerostar went in the shop yesterday for a tune-up. I got it back this afternoon and It runs much smoother and quieter than it did before. No more rough idle or hesitation . I went with all of the motorcraft parts, as I got the work done at the local dealership. they said they had fun getting that passenger-side-rear- most spark plug out, but said it was even more fun to get the new one in.
They only unexpected thing they found was that my ignition coil was cracked, which was probably what was causing some serious static in my radio, boy am I glad that is fixed! It is a good thing they found that because my family is going on a trip for thanksgiving, and if it had quit we would have been stuck.
Well guys I must say that I am a Bit dissapointed with my dealership right now. my son (17) was clening the MAF and changing the air filter when he noticed that we had a potentialy serious radiator hose problem. The upper radiator hose has, over the years, gotten very soft, and is now bloated at the engine end (engine cool too). I am afraid that it is going to burst, but I have to drive it to work tomorrow, because I already lost pay friday for the tune-up!! I plan to pick up a new hose during lunch and put it in when I get home. If it blows I guess I will have to miss work and get it fixed. Would this account for high temperature readings???
The mechanic should have noticed that hose.
By the way the MAF cleaning helped a lot. Runs even better now. After the tune-up I can actually get a little bit of smoke from the rear wheels, for a very short period of time of course, but progress is progress.
