small ports on my 390 Performer intake.?

Just got my performer intake, along with my Edel. 600 vac. seac. carb.
Noticed that the intake runners are much smaller than the intake runners on my heads. Has everyone else had this? Should I flare out the ports to match the I.D. of my heads or leave them as is?

Thanks, Robert P.

Big port/little port

I_THNK_FORD, yes the intake ports are smaller than the heads but the intake will have a higher velocity fuel mix off idle. How you going to use the truck, work, street race, drag race? What type trans, rear gear ratio and cam? With the small ports thru the intake runners little will be gained by flairing out to the heads. This may do more harm than good as well as lowering resale value. The RPM series will wake it up with little off idle loss. $.02. Carl.......o&o>.......

Leave the ports as they are. They are designed to be that way. I believe the instructions say that if the ports are modified the manifold will not perform correctly. The design has been tested and optimized by the factory.

About the only thing you want to do to them is check for any casting flash. Make sure you keep that sharp edge on the monifold ports. Some people try smoothing them out which is a no-no.
