79 Heater/ A.C. Help

Hey everyone
I have a question. First off, i will not be running A.C. On the passenger side firewall on my 79 ranchero, there are two box shaped passages. I know the bigger one on the right is the entry way for the the heated air, but the one on the left im thinking may be the heater core. It looks like inside is a circle that rotates (like the thing a rat or mouse would run in). The thing is the heater and A.C. are connected and they bolted on to the firewall together over those entry ways. If im just going to use the heater, can i just use what i have and not hook up the A.C., or do i even need the one on the left. Sorry if i confuse anyone! This isnt my specialty. Thanks!
Danny

the larger side of the box partially behind the fender is where the evaporator core for the ac is located. it should be a one piece cover on the fire wall but its two seperate bays between evaporator and the heater core. your heat/air controls just opens and closes the flaps between the two. you can disconnect all the ac equipment without effecting the heat. you planning on removing all the ac componets?
