I'm new to this forum and im glad i can post here and get help about vehicle problems. I'm 17 and i just got my license about 3 months ago and i got a hand me down truck. My dad gave me his old 94 ranger he bought a 99 f-150. Lately i have been having a problem when it came to the trans. I just broke 164,000 miles man that is ALOT. today i was making a right turn onto a local subdivision road and i pushed the gas down, i didn't move much if i even did move, it rev'd up to 3 thousand rpm's and about 3 seconds it jumped and my tires spun and i was moving. It did it again on my way home from work tonight. I drove my manager home and he told me my trans might be slipping and i should start saving money for a new one. My dad took care of that truck he maintained it well and im doing the same, im just wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions. Thanks.
The first thing to check is the fluid. Low fluid can do that.
After driving at least 10 miles leave the truck idling in park. Check the level on the dipstick. If it is low add about 8 oz of fluid through the dipstick tube, wait about 10 minutes for it to drain down the dipstick tube, and check it again.
