identifying engine

A buddy of mine pulled an engine out of what appeared to be a seventies ford medium duty truck with a water tank on it. My buddy doesnt know much about fords, so he thought the engine he was pulling out was a 429. After he got it home I took a look at it and was able to tell that it was no 429. I am not sure what engine it is, but it is very large. the intake manifold is part of the head like an FE motor, and the block appears to be Y shaped. It has a 2 barrel carb on it, and the thermostat housing is on the front of the block. I have been told that this engine is probably a 401, because of the 2 barrell. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this engine as a 401,477,534, or if it is just an FE truck motor. Thanks

It really depends on what it came out of. If it was an F-500 up to F-800 then the engine is probably a 330, 361, or 391. I think the 401/477/534 were only used in the C-series and conventional cabs beyond the F-800.
