New Owner of Old Truck

New Owner of Old Truck
I've inherited my first truck, a 1977 Ford XLT. I've explored some of this web site, posted a couple questions under truck year, and just found this MN group. Looks like the place to do some networking. Never having owned a truck, let alone one that needs some restoration, I don't know where to begin. Would love to make some improvements to it, but need some guidance as to where to start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's an XLT Ranger, automatic, 2w drive, 460 engine. I didn't think it had much of a rust problem, and it runs, so thought there was hope to fix it up. Do not want a show car, or mudder, just to preserve it and have a dependable, nice looking, enjoyable drive. I've fixed carb, rear brakes, rag joint and some minor stuff. Took it to one guy today who said save my money, sell it and buy some one else's restoration. But he does Back to the 50's type vehicles so maybe was too finicky? I was crushed.

i loved putzing with my 70's because they are so easy and fun to work on. nothing worse then putting money into something with no return....but know what, these are really becoming more popular and raising in value. i think with all the knowledge of us crying over a 50 something becoming scrap, we would be more conscious of the value of the 70's stuff. unfortunately i dont have a back 40 acreage when i scrapped mine. i cried a few times i hit a boneyard and saw a truck in better shape than mine
that 460 must give it some umph...lol... just gotta be conscious of the common rust areas and fix them before they get bad. me n fordtruckfan want to fill the griggs midway lot at porkies on a saturday night with ford trucks. we'd love to see it, and you can bring it around some people who appreciate it.
