Read thru the posts here. The 401 to 534 were late 50's designed monster gas motors. Way to heavy for a car, don't rev, have serious design issues that prevent hi po tuning. These were slow turning truck and industrial engines. Some found their way into boats, where they worked just fine.

These have gone the way of the do do, replaced by the 429 truck motor and oil burners.

These engines existed from about 1958 to 1983. They were only found in Ford's heaviest truck applications (Caovers, etc.). As was just said, these engines were low-reving very heavy designs built during an era when diesel engines weren't as capable as they are today. They were largely replaced by diesel engines in the 1980s.

Besides being quite heavy, the SD's also had offset fan and water pump pulleys for various chassis applications. With their height from oil pan to oil-bath air cleaner, width from exhaust manifold to exhaust manifold, and length from water pump pulley/cooling fan to bellhousing, it would be pretty tough to fit one in a LD truck frame.

Too, getting a radiator big enough to cool the beast on the street and getting that under the hood of a LD truck would be a chore.

Wouldn't the EPA have a brick trying to inspect one of THOSE, though?? LOL
