I just got a new to me Bronco Saturday. I drove it home from Armonk New York to Florence Ky. I never had a problem with it. I have noticed twice since I got back that it doesn't want to start. Not low battery kinda not start, but turn the key nothing happens at all no noise kinda start. Turn the key back try again it makes a noise. Try again it starts right up. Does this sound like the ignition switch is going bad or do you guys and gals think the key switch could be going bad.
The truck is a 95 Bronco with 5.8l and automatic transmission. It has 185000 on the odometer and runs good for the mileage it has. Averaged 70mph across I's-84,80,76,71and 75.
Have you checked how hot your starter is? Heat from the engine can quickly affect the starter. Some people put in a heat shield and others go with a high end starter that isn't affected as much.
When I used mine to pull a horse trailer from Colorado to east Oklahoma and back, during the winter, I would get slow and sometimes almost no start each time I fueled up. But if I would wait about 30 minutes...it would start right away. Once i got home I put in a heat shield and haven't had a prob since. The battery is about 6 yrs old too. Another thing I have done is really clean the terminals and BOTH ends of the positive and negative main cables. Then super glue a penny about 1 inch from each battery post. They will collect the corrosion instead of the terminal.
