Speed dependent vibration

I recently developed a large bouncing vibration on the front end of my 1976 F-150. It started out of the blue while I was driving around. When I reached 30 mph it started bouncing and stopped once I reached 40 mph and higher. It seems like it would get worse as I picked up speed if it was a wheel out of balance. Could this be a case of a broken shock?

i had the same problem once on my truck and it turned out that the front tires had wear bars. it had wore down that they stuck up about a half inch. rotate the tires smoked em good and hard and its been fine ever since. dont know if this will help or not.

Sometimes a wheel will throw a weight and start to vibrate. Your shocks normally help to control vibrations so a weak or broken shock can make the problem worse.

I actually saw a ford escort going down the highway at 80Mph and the driverside rear tire was bouncing like a basketball. I agree with Tourqe1st, balance the tires and put new shocks on. -Dave
