My driver's side seat belt does not retract and is continually being closed in the door. Is there a way to tighten the spring on a seat belt retractor?
97 F150 XLT 4.2L 2WD

 

I believe that replacement of the assembly is the only answer. Safety first

 

I was told by the service adviser at a dealership to put baby powder or something similar on the belt. One guy at work tried it and said it worked, I have'nt tried it yet. I had mine replaced 2 years ago and it's starting to do it again, I might have to break out the powder.

 

I had mine replaced just 3 months ago and the new one is not retracting already.

 

I put baby powder on the part of the belt that rides across the hanger. Looks like crap and didn't help much. Tried to work the powder into the belt so it would not be visible and still have enough to make it slide across the hanger. Truck smells good. Guess I'll just live with it. Too hot to get involved with removing the interrior side panel to clean the retractor.
