Does installing a chip void the warranty? I just got a 2004 Heritage 4.2 Supercab and have less than 1000 miles on it.

Also, have a question on the installation. Can a novice install the Diablo chip easily? How complicated is the install? Any major stumbling blocks?

Thanks.

Benny,
Welcome to FTE and the 4.2 forum! Glad you found us.
I split your post from the sticky thread on "Power". That thread is just for specific input on advice/opinions/suggestions for ways to improve power.
Several of the guys here have installed chips and I'm sure will be glad to offer their input. I have not opted for a chip but here is what I beleiev;
It will not void warranty.
It is fairly easy to install.

Check thru the threads here and you find more info. As a matter of fact, Motorhaven has a sale on the Diablo chip. See the Announcement at the top of the post column.
There is also a forum just for computers, chips, etc.

Again, glad to have you here at FTE and in the 4.2 forum.

Brian,

Thanks for the info. The Diablo sale by Motorhaven is what's got me interested on the chip.

This is a great forum and site you have going. I've learned so much about my Ford in the week since I found the site.

I try to keep things interesting here. Everyone here is very respectable. I am available any...oops, sorry Brian. Didn't mean to take your thunder and impersonate a moderator.

I had the taste of the dark side and it felt great. I'll go and make a smoothie and I'll be better.

No, the Diablo will not void your warrantee.
Yes, you will get great gains from it.

Basically, the Diablo chip can be installed by a novice in a couple of hours. Why a couple of hours? Because you have to clean the contacts on the computer in your truck. The actual installation process can be done in a matter of minutes. If I times myself I could uninstall my chip, gloat at it's awesomeness, and intall it back in in about 10 - 15 minutes easily. All you really need to do is take it slow.

Be patient for it...it'll seem like an eternity waiting on it. It did for me anyways.

no Diablo chip for my 2004 Heritage 4.2

Hey tru4.2,

Just got an email from Motorhaven that they couldn't program the Diablo chip for my ECU. Any other chip recommendation or is a tuner the only other option? From what I have read tuners run about $400.

Thanks for your help.

MotorHaven has Superchips Custom Tuners as well and we can do it with one of those.

Oh...woops, missed that one. Motorhaven, motorhaven, motorhaven, motorhaven, motorhaven...and so on and so forth...

Guess I figured you would have included that in the email. Sorry for the misrepresentation.

Ordered a 1714.

Ken,

What kind of HP increase can I expect for a 2004 Heritage 4.2 L V6 using the 91 octane program and the Superchips 1714?

Thanks

I just got a 98 F150 regular cab. was was wondering the same thing. These chips are easy to install? I"m not great with motor and working on trucks and i was looking to get a chip. I heard about a chip that can either increase gas milege or give you more power just by hitting a button, is this true? where can you get these chips and how much?

Superchips doesn't have any published numbers for the 4.2 in 2004. Likely to be the same as previous: 8-10% HP, 10-15% torque.
