I received delivery of my 04 fx4 on June 28th, the truck was made in March of 04, when I noticed that the Floor mats were different than what I saw in the brochere (the ones with the black checkered plate look) his responce was that Ford changed the mats mid year and did not up date the brochere, is this true or is this just a bunch of BS.
If you got the rubber mats that have the F-150 emblem on the side of them, then I got the same ones, so I think that he was not BSing, and I like the look of these ones better!
He wasn't BS'ing, Job#1 trucks came with "diamond plate" floor mats and Job#2 trucks came with the ones you're talking about. I have a job2 truck but I made the dealers swap out my FX4 mats with a Job1 FX4 because IMO the diamond plate mats look much better.
The original mats did have the diamond plate look that matches the door sill. I have seen both and the original looks much better IMO
but for the life of me I can not understand why they would change something like floor mats in mid stream
I know when they first did it there were quite a few P.O.ed people in this forum when they thought they were getting the old style and it came with the other so I think they all went out abought Husky mats!
WEB, it does seem strange that Ford would do this but I bet if the truth be known the job2 mats (the ugly ones) were cheaper for Ford and it lowered the build cost of the F150 by a couple of pennies. Just like Job2 trucks have cheaper keys than Job1 trucks. My key is just plain black plastic with the Ford emblem "stamped" in the plastic, Job1 trucks have an actual Ford emblem (blue and chrome) on them which looks much better. Again I would say Ford did these small things to cut costs.
I think you are right, pennies must be the answer. One of the first things I noticed when I opened the door of the one on the showroom floor was that the mat matched the door sill and I thought that was a great touch. I guess if you sell a couple of 100,000 or so trucks it could add up to a bonus for the big wheels
But I did not know about the key That sucks, I agree that the blue oval was a classy addition to just a plain old black key. I guess this means with the limited addition mats and keys we have a collectors edition truck
I am getting ready to purchase some Husky Liners for my FX4. I too was unfortunatley misguided by the dealership...told me that these were the mats that they switched to during later production. If you are interested in purchasing them, I would be more than happy to help you out...Let me know... yuledo@netzero.com
