i need some help on getting a good carb i ordered a edelbrock 750 double pumper but i was just wanting to no if that would work pretty good so give me your opinion on what i should get thanx
If you have a manual tansmission that carb is probably fine for a stock or very mild 460. If its an automatic vacuum secondarys are better. Of course I like Holleys or Demons myself but they are more work.

I didn't know Edelbrock had a double pumper, I thought they were all vacuum secondaries. Maybe I've been in the dark...
i have a 750 cfm edelbrock w/ man choke, and it works pretty good. i am not sure how long it has been on the truck though, and think it could use a rebuild, but i will do it when i do the rest of the motor.
do you have a manual or auto tranny? And how do you plan to use your truck. A 750 double pumper is good if you want to rip tear and sling mud everywhere but is a little much if you want something to tow/haul with.
With a stock 460 this is about the right carb. Ford always seem to use more carb than the other guys.
Thats because if you have ever seen dyno test done on carb changes chebbies always like to be slightly under carbed, and ford seem to like to be slightly over carbed. This is not a hard, and fast rule just what I have seen on different test, and in real life. I am running an 825cfm on a 302 cleveland (this is race only not the typical street engine), and it may be a slight over carbed upto about 4000rpm, but you put that same carb on a 350 chev, and it won't start running good until 6000rpm.
but as to the origanal question, I ran an edelbrock 750 on a 460 (can remember the year off the top of my head but the truck was a 79 F150 4x4), and that carb worked real well, it got reasonably good fuel economy 12-14 on the road obviously less when using it on the farm. pulled real good, had plenty of power, and when I sold the truck a guy ran that truck in the mud drags without any changes, and did real well with it, so you won't have anyproblems with that carb

I had a 600 and currently run a 750 on my new motor.I've no problem's at all with Edelbrock's carb's,the only thing is on a built up engine they tend to be jetted a little lean.
it is a automatic i go mudding and was thinking about goin to the texanna mud drags with it i play and dont really have to pull anything unless its a chevy out of a mudhole but other than that i dont really pull anything.
Are you sure that Edelbrock is a double-pumper? Could have changed, but when I was still playing with cars that were intended to go fast, double-pumper was a Holley with mechanical secondaries. Had one on a '74 Pontiac with a 455, was either a 660 or 750 CFM. What I remember was that if you punched it at lower speeds, it would dump way too much gas into the engine. It was intended for all-out performance, not street cars. I'd think for your 460, a vacuum-secondary 750 would be plenty.
thanx for the help and it is a vacuum secondary the guy at oreillys didnt no what he was talkin about and had me talked into it but i got it put on there and it runs like a champ thanx guys
