Granted in the mornings it's only about 60 degrees outside this time of year....but my truck has ALWAYS started right up. Now...it takes a couple tries to do so. Engine turns over just fine, but won't run on first try. Same goes for in the afternoon after sitting at work for 8 hrs. and it's 90 degrees outside. What could be the possible problems?
I just recently had the spark plugs and wires replaced, in hopes that that might help. Also had the fuel cooling sensor AND the cooling system sensors replaced, along with the fuel filter.
Aside from that, the check engine light's been on for a couple years....knowing it was the EVAP system. I did NOT replace the whole assembly. Only what I believe to be the sensor part # F57Z-14A606-BA. Refer to thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...threadid=152825 and the diagram "figure 2". There are 2 parts in that diagram, the one on the left is what I replaced. Disconnected the neg. battery cable for a half hour to reset the codes and now the check engine light stays off.
My question is this...could the other part (what I gather to be the actual fuel canister valve) be the cause of why the truck won't "cold" start. I doubt it...because the check engine light would be back on, which it has stayed off for 250 miles now. Btw...my truck has 150,000 miles on it. It's a 2.3L engine as it says in the title.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may want to have the codes pulled again.
Try taking the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is wet inside or smells of gas.
The Haynes service manual is worth the $15. Mine has paid for itself many times over!.

Could be a sticking fuel pump relay. in the under hood fuse box there are several 1 in. square relays.the cover to the box should show the location of the pump relay.when it wont start,try tapping on it a few times then try to start it.

 

Simple test for a weak fuel pump: Turn the key to run for 2 seconds then off. Do that 6 times to build fuel pressure then see how it starts.
