steer gear box adj

Could someone tell me how to adjust the slack in my steering on my '88 f150,it's getting hard to keep it between the ditches.Thanks to all for replying,Danny

On the top of the box there is a set screw with a locking nut. The nut on mine is 5/8" Loosen the lock nut and hold it with the wrench while you adjust the screw. Clockwise rotation tightens the box, it tightens the sector teeth engagement to the nut internal of the box. Tighten 1/8 to 1/4 turn at a time and check it. Eventually you will feel the steering wheel not return to center as well so back it off a bit at this point.
