If your a nature lover or squeamish - do not open this

I know - that title probably made you open it

But you Texans that have been in these terrible rains latley...
something I've never seen and I might suggest you go check your yards ...

Obvious to me now that these heavy rains in the spring when the birds are raising their young is a bad thing...

Ready to stop reading now ?

I just had the unpleasant task
(and had to REALLY hurry before the girls got home)
of SHOVELING hundreds of dead baby birds from the corner of my yard....

We have the swing set there under a HUGE tree and have always had a big tarp over it to keep the birdy presents off the swings...

the storms pushed it off... so I'm going to straighten it back out and there are literally a HUNDRED baby birds that I presume drowned in the torrential rains on the tarp....
that was bad enough...
then I go to look in the corner where the water drains through the yard and out thru our privacy fence... the water lines on the fence are up around the 10 inch mark so much water went thru theee...

and it is covered in baby birds.... about 6 foot long and 2 foot wide !!

I guess they were all little finches or something....

TOUGH JOB ! and CAN'T tell the wife and them --- she knows something got to me just now and is badgering me but I dare not tell her or my sweet nature lover will go off the deep end !

I know what you mean.Mother Nature can be pretty cruel sometimes.but on a lighter note, when we get heavy rains here in Michigan my little woman turns into a ballerina! She is terrified of nightcrawlers and will do the moonwalk if thats what it takes for her not to step on one.I know,,Im demented, but I will watch for her to come home from work if it has been raining just so I can get a good laugh!

Tim... this is almost typical for spring in Texas -
30 inch yearly rainfall, but usually it's all in about a day it seems like...
Some area in the southeast sector got 12 to 15 inches in one storm !!!!
bridges washed away, people running off the bridges - it WAS bad !

******************************
back to the birds...
Of course I got the 100 questions.....

What's wrong, why you acting different ?
"Nothing"
No there's something bugging you what is it ?
20 minutes later and 100 questions I eveaded...
"Sweetie, trust me on this one, you don't want to know!"
and then the questions REALLY started....

Guess she thought my girlfriend had just left or something....

is it an animal ?
is it a snake ? (she's petrified of them )
is it dead
is it....

on and on and on

I ended up chukling at here because we were watching something on tv and every once in a while another question would pop up

course the laughing didn't help - I got the bruises on my arm to show for that

but never told her --- knew better after the Holy COW she had thrown over the one dead finch we found a while back that had flown into the picture window...

Strange event to catch in a populated area. I can't even imagine how this would happen if it were in one of them islands in the middle of the Pacific where it's covered in birds.
Have you called animal control to deal with the clean-up?
