Engine Woe
I own a 1992 Ford Explorer XLT 2wd. It has about 130000 miles on it. The car died.
I started the car, drove it a few miles and sudddenly the car started loping, as if I were continually hitting the brake while accelerating. This happened after a series of incidences this summer including the A/C giving up the ghost, and a heater hose exploding. Now the car billows a very acrid white/grey smoke and dies if I take my foot off the gas.
My mechanic believes a rebuilt engine is in order.
My question: what should I expect to pay for a rebuilt motor?
Would you recommend a new motor over a rebuilt one?
If I wanted to "upgrade" to a more powerful motor, what would you recommend?
Thanks for your input
