I was wondering if the exhaust slid apart from the cat? (the tail pipe) on my 96 f-250. i want to take off the muffler and straight pipe it.

 

It's been a while since I've had a stock exhaust on my truck, but I believe the system was welded together. To pull off the muffler, you might very well have to cut it, and have a section of pipe welded into it's place.
Whereabouts in WA are you? I'm in Kent.

 

No, you have to cut out the muffler and weld a piece of pipe in place of it. If it is legal, take off the cat, too. It is in Oklahoma. Don't know about Washington.

I just pulled that section off my 97 250 last night. At first I tried to beat the cat off the exhaust while it was still on the truck - no luck. When I got that section pulled off I still could not pound it off, even though it was loose. I finally took the old sawsall (a neccesary tool for workin on a PSD) and cut off the exhaust section right up at the cat. I STILL couldn't get the leftover ring part off. So I sawed a slit in it and it then popped off the cat.
