I have a 2002 F250 7.3 4x4 with automatic transmission.
Last week I had the transmission flushed for the 60,000 mile service. Now, it is dripping oil from somewhere near the engine/tranny junction. I'm sure it's oil since it's black not red fluid. Seems to be dripping a couple tablespoons per day.
Before I take it back to have it checked out, does anyone have any idea if flushing the transmission can cause an oil leak? I don't know the exact process for flushing a tranny and wanted to get a little info before talking to the mechanic.
Sounds to me like the torque converter plug is leaking. You can remove the inspection cover and rotate the converter until the tc plug is at 6:00 and tighten it up a little. Shouldn't take but about 15 minutes or so. If you had it done at a shop, take it back and let them check it for you.
I'm just assuming that its tranny fluid that is getting dirty before it finds its way to the ground. Can't think of why you would spring an oil leak from a tranny service.
Check in the valley of the engine on the top for any oil. Also, check up around the starter and down the back of the engine for oil residue. If it is indeed oil, there are a few things that could be the culprit. HPOP could be leaking into the valley, turbo o-rings, galley plugs, and possibly even a rear main seal if there's no oil on the topside of the motor. I had a bleeder screw on my HPOP work itself loose somehow or another (at least that's what I was told my the monkey at the dealership ) and it was squirting oil into the valley of the engine, running down the back of the motor by the starter. You can take it to the dealer and have them do a dye test. They'll stick some glow in the dark dye in the oil and it will show up under a blacklight and help pinpoint the problem.
