i have a 76 300 and im not shure of the milage but it is smokeing a decent amount at take off i was wondering what type of oil i should be useing. right now i am useing valvoline 10-40 ??

 

15w 40 Rotela T might help

 

try strait 30 weight.

 

what color of smoke?
blue smoke is oil
black smoke is running rich
white smoke is burning antifreeze

If your engine smoking alot it's going to need a rebuild soon anyways so I would just run straight 40 or 50(if the temp. where you live at least gets in the 90s for a high), this might wreck the bearings but since the motor is toast anyways it's probably the best chance at stopping the smoke until you can get it rebuilt.

 

i run 20-50w, and mine still leaks like a seive and smokes to beat hell...but, it's an old truck with a lotta miles on it...so i'm just gonna rebuild my spare motor, drop it in, and turn my current motor into a play-toy and build it up...
