AC not COLD; Heat not HOT
I have a 98 explorer, and in the winter the heater takes forever to produce heat. It take the car about 20 minutes to produce any heat at all, even if the car is at normal operating temps. Now it is spring and my AC is doing the same type of thing. It does not produce cold air for about the first 25 minutes of drive time. Even after it does put out cold air it is still does not put out very cold air unless it is on max. I had the AC filled and checked for leaks, this helped somewhat but still not performing right. I can hear compressor clicking on and off so I don't think it is that. I don't know if these two problems are related or not. I don't want to take it to ford because I have a feeeling they will tell me the compressor is bad even if that is not the problem.

I can see the vent door if I remove the glove box. There is no broken parts. It is controlled by the Vacuum Motor Assy. I am not sure if the vent is working properly though. The only time the vent opens is when the AC is on max. Other wise it is closed on all other settings including heat settings. Is this normall?

dash selector controls vacume to operate vent door and temp control.if door is operating properly.i would check temp control valve.it is in engine compartment.it controls water flow thru heater core.it may be stuck.or vacume line to it damaged.which year explorer do you have?i think if engine is not at proper operating temp.comp wont allow ac to stay on.is temp guage in middle operating range?.those are the only simple things i can think of.good luck
