Solved one problem, created a new one...
Ive been having a worsening ping in my 3.0 v-6 for about a year now and finally fixed it about a month ago. The problem i now have is a power/torque problem. Like i said, all the pinging is gone
, even under load towing my boat. But I had lots of trouble getting the torque to pull it out the water when it used to be much easier. Also, the truck seems to bog down once i get to 4th gear(manual tranny). The truck screams in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. It still accelerates some in 4th and 5th, but for example i was in 4th gear at constant speed and then put the pedal to the floor(it is now when i wouldve heard the pinging) but now theres no ping and it gradually picks up speed ever so slowly. Also, when i used to punch it in 4th gear before the pinging and all, the truck would throw me back in my seat(well, as much as a 3.0 could). Now i just sit there hoping i can make it to 60mph soon. I have done all the scheduled maintenance, as well as changed spark plugs. Anybody experience this? Thanks
I could be wrong about this but i dont think that the newer 3.0's have the ability to retard timing themselves because of no knock sensor. If they could, my timing would have retarded a LONG time ago. I know that the dealership can retard the timing for you so i dont think that retarded timing is the problem.
An update to the problem i am having, i probably made it out to be more serious than it actually is. The truck accelerates in 4th, just feels like its not getting all the power from like a lack of air flow(air filter brand new) or poor combustion mixture. My gas mileage has been kinda poor lately which has me wondering if it is getting too rich of a mixture. Maybe faulty o2 sensor?

If you have an analog VOM, you can backprobe the wiring harness to the O2 sensor to see if it is switching properly. If I recall correctly (I don't have my Probst book in front of me at the moment) the O2 sensor should switch between 0 and ~2v.
