1962 Ford F-602 Timing

Does anyone know the timing of a "Q" engine. I think it is a engine; or if not, do you know if it is covered in the sevice manual? That is to ask, is it worth my spending $75 to buy a manual only to find that it either is not in the manual or that it is something that someone here can tell me? Tks.

I'm going to guess you have a 292. A V-8 where the driver side exhaust comes out the front and crosses to the passenger side manifold?

I'm going to guess again. Try 6 degrees btdc. Regular fuel 289's & FE's were at 6 degrees, so I'm guessing Ford liked that number. You might be able to run up to 10, but start at 6 and see how it runs.

Still have points? .16 I think. Am I right? Is my memory still there?

Better minds may chime in.

ID that motor and try the motor specific threads if you have no luck.

That engine could also be a 330 or a 361.

Hi Sam,

Engine code "Q" would be the 477 Super duty V-8 engine.

According to my '59 Truck shop manual...............

"Initial Ignition Timing (B.T.D.C.)"

"All HD and SD V-8 (302,332,401,477,534)
With regular fuel of 85-88 octane..........................................4 Deg.
With regular fuel of 88-90 octane..........................................6 Deg.
With regular fuel of 90-92 octane..........................................8 Deg.
With regular fuel of 92 octane or more, or premium fuel............10 Deg."

I hope this helps.
