hey guys, everytime i get in my truck i smell gas until i let her idle for a couple of minutes. I have checked the tank, it has no leaks that i can find. its a 1970 f-100 sport. any help plz
thanks
Thanks for the tips guys, i am still workin on it but i think it is in the carb seal, it is leakin a little bit of gas onto the intake manifold, but i will check all that stuff too,
thnx guys
All most all post hit on good things to check. More things to check. On a
F-100 there's a Vapor recovery system on the gas tank, lines check that all hose claps are tight. I once had a gas smell and could not find it. the leak tuened out to be the rubber line. Tank to hard line UNDER THE TRUCK right above my muffler with a very small drip that could not be seen. So if you have side pipes you may want to check there also.. my 2 cents
orich
the carb was leaking , but the smell is still returning. I believe that it is the filler cap gasket, does anyone know where I can get one? Cheaper the better, minimum wage doesnt give me alot of room to deal with. Also the gasket around the cap on the side of the truck is cracked. What gasket is this? it may also need to be replaced.
thnx guys you have been a big help
the one around the filler neck is the filler neck grommet, as far as the cap almost any parts store should have a replacement gas cap that should work and as far as the vapor recovery system some had the some didnt, i have a 72 f100 4x4 and it has one the truck i picked up for parts was a 2wd ranger xlt and it just has a plain unvented tank. it is now mounted in the front of my box for a spare until i can find one to fit under the rear of the truck.
well, i replaced the gas filler gromet, the gas cap, and it quit! thnx alot for all your help guy, i couldnt for the life of me get that to stop leaking.
